Everyone has a different moment signifying the summer season is here. For our cruiser members, it might be launching after a winter of work or joining the first cruise in company. For our windsurfer members, it might be dusting off the paddle board for those calm days without enough wind for windsurfing or wing foiling. For the dinghy and cat fleets, a key moment is the return of Wednesday evening races. The opportunity to get a mid-week fix of sailing followed by dinner from the galley and those glorious sunsets over Osea Island.
The first 2024 Wednesday evening race took place last week and we were blessed with a lovely sunny day and gentle breezes to welcome us back. A great turn out of both cats and monohulls to enjoy the conditions.
So how does it all work? Wednesday evening racing runs on a Pursuit Race format starting from the hard. There are staggered start times, with the slower handicap boats starting first (first start is at 7pm) followed by faster handicap boats at set times called out by the Race Officer. The race ends at 8.10pm and whoever is in front at that time is the winner! It is a simple and fun format and ideal for those who want to give racing a try.
Wednesday evening races will run every week from now until mid-August. Evening meals can be pre-booked each week via WhatsApp – see the weekly email for details. See you there!
