In honour of the trophy presented back in 1958 by Queenie Hallam (a founding member of the club) – the annual Ladies Series was held on Saturday 8th August. Seventeen boats and twenty-three competitors of all ages took part in three races across the day.
The winds were gusty and with big shifts making the conditions challenging. There were a fair few capsizes, even amongst the most experienced competitors. There was also a great turnout from our Cadet fleet who impressed everyone with their persistence and performance, particularly given the conditions.
There was a closely fought battle between the RS2000s and also the Laser fleet, whilst the Dart 15s did their best to get far enough ahead to offset their handicap difference. In the end, it turned out to be weather that favoured the cats who edged into first and second, ahead of the Lasers.
As the trophy approaches its seventieth anniversary, it is great to see the event continues to be so well supported across the club and with younger talent showing clear promise for the future.
