Learn to Sail in Essex

If you’re looking for a place to try out the sport of sailing look no further!

Marconi Sailing Club is an East Coast gem! We benefit from a large site, excellent facilities and most importantly of all – a beautiful expanse of water to sail on at any state of the tide.

We have an active membership across all types of sailing and on the water activities: cruisers, dinghies, catamarans, windsurfers, cruises, racing and cadet events. We also host visiting fleets and have camping and social events.

We want all members to be able to make the most of everything the club has to offer. You can find our membership prices here and download an application form here. If you want to come and have a look around then please feel free, here is how to find us. If you email info@marconi-sc.org.uk prior to your visit, we will endeavour to arrange for one of the team to meet you on site.

Helping you

Every year we’re adding more activities to our annual sailing programme to help our members old and new become more confident on the water. Whether you’re an experienced sailor, want to practice your race starts or you need to build on the basics we’ll have an activity for you. Here’s a quick overview of the activities we have planned to help you.

If you need any more information or have any questions then please do email us info@marconi-sc.org.uk

Sail Training Days

Sail Training Days are scheduled throughout the season to provide training to either young members up to age 18 or for adult members that are new to sailing or would like to gain confidence.

Each session starts at 10:30am in wet gear, ready to sail.

These are a fantastic way to spend time with others in a similar situation and they are run by our members who volunteer their time. You’ll be put into an appropriate group based on your ability and will receive relaxed coaching to help you improve and build confidence.

Come Racing

Racing is a great way to improve your sailing and is also very sociable! If you have not done much racing but would like to have a go it’s best on Sundays. Any member will be able to point you in the direction help you with the starts, courses, signing on/off etc.

Pursuit races are a really good way to start because you will simply push off from the hard standing at a designated time. You’ll follow a course where the slowest boats go first and the faster ones play catch-up. Whoever is in the lead when the whistle is blown wins. Pursuit races are simple and really easy to follow, you’ll also learn from other boats near to you.

Cadet Week

Our annual Cadet Week provides fun sail training for young club members up to the age of 18. We also provide sail training for adults who are new to sailing!

The week includes sailing tuition, a long distance race with a picnic, water games, social events, a grand prize giving and a Cadet Regatta on the final Saturday.

The week is wholly run by volunteers – and all of our members are very welcome to join in.

If you want to camp during Cadet Week – please watch out for information on how to register for camping in the weekly newsletter. Camping registration is via online application form. Places fill up very quickly so you’ll need to return your form promptly to ensure you get a camping place.
A separate registration for Cadet Week is usually issued around April/May. Early registration is appreciated.

RYA Training Centre

Marconi Sailing Club is pleased to also be an RYA Training Centre. We’ve had this status for a number of years offering powerboat training to our members. In 2017 this expanded to also be able to offer basic dinghy sailing courses to our members.
