Sponsors and supporters of the East Coast Piers Race were given an opportunity to go aboard Queen Galdriel, one of The Cirdan Sailing Trust’s vessels. Crew members and Cirdan Trust representatives showed guests around the Baltic Trader built in 1937 which now supports groups of young people to experience the adventure of sailing.
From the accommodation below to her extensive rigging and sail plan, guests were shown how young people develop team work, build confidence and learn new skills taking on every aspect of life aboard.
The East Coast Piers Race is a long distance race for catamarans and fast dinghies with two courses – a fifty mile round trip to Walton Pier or a twenty five mile round trip to Colne Point. The inaugural race was held in 1987 and it continues to be a firm favourite on the cat sailors calendar.
Even more importantly, the race raises thousands of pounds for charity each year including The Cirdan Sailing Trust. None of this would be possible without our sponsors – Mighty Oak Brewery, Essex Spirits Company and Allen Brothers or our many supporters who manage the event or make up the safety support network for the race. We were delighted that some of our supporters got the opportunity to see first hand how funds raised by ECPR is put to such good use.
The East Coast Piers Race this year takes place on 13th and 14th July with free camping from Friday night through to Sunday morning, a Saturday evening meal included in the entry and the opportunity to buy beer and spirits to raise money for charity. The safety aspects of the race are taken very seriously and competitors are required to carry specific safety equipment with them. The Notice of Race is now published on the East Coast Piers Race website. Why not come and join us!
