Over 70 Cadets enjoyed a stellar Cadet Week at Marconi thanks to the support of dozens of club members ashore and afloat. The Cadets ranged from the very young in Starfish Group up to adults in the Flying Fish and Turtle groups. The Sealion Group had tutors in the boats with them, whilst the Dolphin Group were sailing independently supported by a team of tutors in the RIB. The more experienced Sharks spent the week honing their racing skills and trying out cat sailing too.
The weather could not have been more perfect with sunshine, warm temperatures and gentle breezes making for a great week of sailing and socialising. Activities included the annual long distance race and picnic – this year on Osea Island – and the Wednesday evening race. Plus trips to see the seals and a pirate treasure hunt for younger sailors with seamanship and racing training for others. Evenings included sing songs around the bonfire, karaoke and evening meals provided by Nick and Tracey in the galley followed by drinks in the bar.
The week was rounded off with the Annual Cadet Regatta – followed by Cadet Week prizegiving and free BBQ for all involved on the Saturday.
Huge thanks go to the Cadet Committee – Jen Castle, Anna Nickalls and Dan Bard for putting the week together and to the army of tutors, safety boat crews, shore team, first aiders, race officers, bar volunteers and galley team who all made the week possible. Thank you to all.
