2021 Sailing Schedule is here!
The many sections of the sailing club have been working hard behind the scenes to develop our schedule of activities for 2021. We have planned an even busier schedule of events for next year. If we need to adapt some or all of them nearer the time, we will do so. But the focus will continue to be on enabling as much activity as possible, as safely as possible.
As I am sure you appreciate, all these activities are only possible due to the amazing efforts of volunteers within the club (who are all fee-paying members themselves). Those volunteers worked nothing short of miracles to ensure many of these activities could still take place in 2020, despite lockdown and Covid restrictions and whilst still ensuring water safety and not putting members or emergency services under undue pressure or risk. Unfortunately, a few of these activities were not feasible this year, but they were a minority and, all being well, will be back next year.
2021 Activities
Activities scheduled for next year include:
- Mooring activity and cruiser launching/recovery
- Cruiser Cruises
- Dinghy Cruises
- Cat, Dinghy and Cadet Sunday Racing
- Wednesday night racing followed by dinner in the Galley
- BJRC Cruiser Racing
- Keelboat / SB20 Academy and Racing
- RYA powerboat and dinghy qualifications training
- Sail training
- East Coast Piers Race
- Cadet week and Camping Fortnight
- Camping weekends
- Social events
- Working parties
- AGM and Prizegiving
And this is in addition to all the other general activity undertaken by members such as general sailing, cruising, gig rowing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddleboarding etc that takes place throughout the year.
Points to Note for 2021
This year, we have been able to promote the club and attract new members through other channels and without an Open day. So we have decided not to schedule an Open Day next year – and instead, use that day for Sail Training.
Next year, we will not schedule camping on the first May Bank Holiday. Instead, these camping days have been allocated to an additional camping period in August. Camping will continue to be held on the Late May and August Bank holidays plus the Midsummer Weekend, East Coast Piers Race and Camping Fortnight. Further information about camping arrangements will be issued in the new year.
I would like to extend my thanks to the following for helping put together the schedule for next year:
Ray Ball, Pat Shaw, Nigel James, Liz Kirby, Pete Clayton, Charlotte Ferneyhough, John Nickalls, Dan Bard, Dave Clarke, Jemma Clarke, Colin Wardell, Peter Ward, Mark Whitley, Bob Collins, Jenny Miller, Gary Jackson, Kevin Stubbs, Sam Flaherty, Jayne Cross, Andrew Dowley.
Small print: Sailing Schedule activities are subject to Covid and related restrictions that may be in place at any point during 2021.
Look forward to seeing you at the club soon!
