Sponsor Elettra’s Team to Reach £500 for the RNLI!
UPDATE – Due the worsening Covid-19 situation the Maldon Little Ship Club (MLSC) have decided to postpone the 2022 race. It will no longer be on 3rd January, but hopefully take place later in the year. More information can be found here – https://www.mlsc.org.uk/article/sponsored-row-2022 . Please still consider sponsoring the MSC team. If and when the starting gun is fired Elettra will be there and your support for the RNLI will be more important than ever.
UPDATE #2 – MLSC have since taken the very difficult decision to cancel for this year.
We would like to thank everyone who so generously donated money to our Just Giving page and hope you will still be happy for the funds to go to the RNLI.
This year’s MLSC RNLI Fancy Dress Rowing Race will take place on Saturday 3rd January later in 2022 on the quay at Maldon. This has always been an event that the club has supported, since the early days, when Mike Turner and Pete Clayton first rowed in 1979 and raised money for the RNLI. There have been many memorable fancy dress costumes particularly during the years of the Ball family and more recently when the Claytons and Ashes took part.
This is our fifth year with the gig Elettra. The race is now in it’s 43rd year and still going strong.
This year’s team will be Martin Baker, Jonathan Lavender, Graham Cross and Tom and Sophie Clayton. The fancy dress theme is as yet to be decided with much debate ensuing, any suggestions will be most welcome.
It is a sponsored race with the aim of raising funds for the RNLI and traditionally we have held fund raising events throughout the year. Usually raffles at the various social events and quiz nights.
We have then presented these funds, sometimes in excess of £1000, to the Maldon Branch after the race. But due to Covid there haven’t been any social events so we have been unable to raise any money; even the jar on the bar is dry because we are all paying by card now!
So moving with the times we have set up a ‘Just Giving page’ with the aim is to raise at least £500 for the RNLI, a cause close, as sailors, to all our hearts.
Please visit the page at
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sandra-clayton4 and make a donation!
In the spirit of our normal fundraising here will also be a chance to win a donated prize for those who participate.
Thank you for your support!
Peter and Sandra Clayton
