Marconi SC Prepares for Strong Competition in Sailing Leagues this Season
Last weekend 5 Marconi Keelboat sailors participated in a J70 training session at the Royal Southern Yacht Club.
The sessions and drills were delivered by Megan Brickwood, recent British Sailing Team member in the 49erFX class.
The weekend provided both a really heavy weather day and a light airs day, which allowed our sailors to add skills and experience for conditions they are likely to come across as they compete in Keelboat leagues this season.
On Thursday of this week, Dan & David Nickalls, Hannah Bard and Jack Wardell will complete their preparation in Portugal by tuning up against a team from West Hoe Sailing Club. Both will then go into three days of competition in the J70 at Vilamoura taking part in the Sailing Champions League (SCL) competing against 16 of the best keelboat league racing clubs from across Europe.
It wasn’t only Marconi’s SCL team benefiting from last weekends training as Mia Morgan and Alex Maloney also took part. Mia along with Hannah Bard will be joined by Niamh Davies and Tiegan Crick when they participate in the women British Keelboat League in May, aiming to improve on their 5th position of last season.
In June Marconi, in partnership with neighbours Stone SC, will be hosting a BKL League event using the club owned fleet of SB20’s with any surplus being ploughed back into the clubs keelboat fund to help develop the next generation of keelboat sailors.
