Cadet Week is fast approaching and the weather man has promised a perfect force 3 and 25 degree heat every day*.
If you’re new to Cadet Week then at Marconi Sailing Club we have two weeks of on site camping available, spaces are usually booked in March ahead of time. I believe at this stage there are some pitches available for the second week only.
The first week has the below schedule (subject to change due to weather etc) and the second week is very relaxed with informal sailing activities for members.
Over Cadet Week the following events happen:
Saturday 1st August
- Camping starts from 8am that morning
- 80’s themed Cocktail night in the Bar in support of the RNLI
Sunday 2nd August
- Normal club racing
- Cadet Week registration in the evening
- New Tutor Briefing
- ‘Allo ‘Allo French style Cheese & Wine ‘street’ party in the field – bring your own foot, cuttlery, table, chairs etc
Monday 3rd August
- Cadet week officially starts (usually around 9.30am)
- Morning briefing for cadets and support helpers
- Weekly photo with everyone in their t-shirts
- Capsize drill in a safe environment for those who haven’t done it before (it’s essential to know)
- Sailing
- Catamaran and advanced skill clinics
- Bonfire on the beach
Tuesday 4th August
- Morning briefings
- Full day of sailing
- Catamaran and advanced skill clinics
- Movie night
- A meal in the galley (pre booking required)
Wednesday 5th August
- Morning briefing
- Full day of sailing
- Evening pursuit race starting at 6pm
Thursday 6th August
- Morning briefing
- Long distance races and picnic on either Osea Island, Thirslet or Goldhanger – packed lunches will be required and usually need to be made and ready to go in the morning. Visitors and non sailors can be transported to the destination by power boat or cruisers
- Sports evening
Friday 7th August
- Fancy dress day (theme TBC)
- Morning sailing
- Animal Team Event/Race
- Tutor meal (a meal to thank all tutors for donating their time)
- Karaoke night in the bar
Saturday 8th August
- Morning briefing
- Cadet Regatta
- Galley open
- Prize giving usually around 5pm
- BBQ and disco – free to all cadets, tutors and helpers – small donation in the pot for others
Sunday 9th August
- Sunday racing and a chance to practice all those new skills you have learnt!
