Yodare Website
“YODARE is an epic sailing challenge to become the first ever single handed dinghy to sail around ALL the islands of England and Wales. That’s a grand total of 183 islands and over 1200 miles of sailing, all in a dinghy as small as two bath tubs (and just as wet!). The aim is to raise around £13,000 for Cancer Research and Oakhaven Hospice, two life changing charities for so many people facing the challenge that is CANCER ”

On Thursday 25th April 2019 Ken and his team arrived at Marconi SC to sail around Osea and Northey Islands. Having been forewarned of this adventure by the clubs weekly email update (you can find lots on up to the minute and interesting information in the clubs weekly email update) a few of us had decided to join him for his sail.
On the day we were greeted with 20 plus knots of gusty breeze from the South this made for a wild ride in some places but some glorious reaching along flat water round the back of Osea Island. After an exhilarating sail round the islands (rather a shame I decided to take a RIB looked like a lot of fun) all returned to the club safely with big smiles and tales of shallow causeway crossings and “mega” gusts.
Not that it was a race…… but Ken was home and dry long before any of the club members and endorsing the general view that he is simply a very nice man. There he was there helping the others up the hard with trolleys and boats before adjourning upstairs in the club house to take on the social media activities so vital this kind of endeavour.
It was a great pleasure to meet Ken and hear how committed and passionate he is about his cause and we wish him the very best for his continuing adventure and with his fund raising for such a worthwhile cause.
