Sunshine and a healthy breeze set the scene for a day of fun on and off the water at the Marconi Sailing Club Open Day. As part of the RYA ‘Push the Boat Out’ initiative, the club along with a number of others along the River Blackwater held their annual Open Day which attracted visitors from across the area to take to the water. The sailing season has well and truly started! Three fleets covering the full spectrum turned out at Marconi Sailing Club today – following the new Bank Holiday Series format of two back to back races in the morning with a third race in the afternoon. The boats ranged from a Topper, Solo, Lasers, Lark, 420 through to Sprint 15s, RS600, RS800, Spitfire, Viper, International Foiling Moth and an 18ft Skiff! Today there was a fantastic start to the 2015 sailing season at Marconi Sailing Club. 15 boats took to the start line to battle it out for the first points of the Spring Series in cold conditions with a light breeze. It was nice to see a good mixture of adults as well as cadets sailing this early in the season. On Saturday 28th February Marconi Sailing Club members made their way to the RYA Dinghy Show for the presentation of our RYA Champion Club status. At 2pm our commodore Michaela Dowley was invited onto the stage by Paul Wren, RYA High Performance Manager to be handed the flag and plaque from Olympic Laser Sailor Nick Thompson. Shortly after, the Marconi members also took to the stage for a photo opportunity in front of the RYA Dinghy Show visitors. Sailing Club and East Coast Piers Race event helps charity take to the Waves Following the success of this year’s East Coast Piers Race, Marconi Sailing Club in Steeple, Essex have once again helped to raise nearly £12,000 for local charity The Cirdan Trust who provide sailing experiences for under-privileged children.
