Cruiser Racing
Marconi boats are well placed on their all tide moorings to participate in a wide range of cruiser racing events. Not only do we have race teams participating in the popular BJRC local inshore series, but our boats travel to participate in East Coast regatta, such as Ramsgate and represent the club in East and South Coast Offshore racing, with some note-able success.
We have member boats representing the club with some degree of success in the following events:
BJRC Inshore Series
A season long, 9 race series for boats on the river Blackwater, from all RYA affiliated clubs. The fleet regularly has 15 – 20 boats coming to the start line competing in both local handicap and IRC rating classes.
BCOSS Estuary Series
A summer series of 3 races for all boats from clubs on the rivers Blackwater and Colne. This fleet is made up of White Sail, local handicap and IRC racers and with more than 20 boats coming to the line.
EAORA Offshore Series.
A season of offshore races starting from the Blackwater, Crouch and Harwich area, around the Thames Estuary and across to channel ports such as Ostend, Ijiumeden, and Breskens. Most races in this series are between 50 and 180 miles long.
RORC Offshore Series.
A season of offshore races, usually starting at Cowes, but including the North Sea Race and the East Coast race as part of the championship.
Marconi Autumn Series.
An end of season series of friendly races, for bilge keelers, white sails, no spinnakers and of course our usual racers. Breakfast in the galley, ribs act as trot boats, start and finish at Marconi line after 2 hours of sailing. Lunch is ready by the time we return ashore. Open to members of any club.
