After a late launch at the start to the season, 4 Marconi Cruisers took to the line and grew the fleet to 18 boat in BJRC race 3 on Sunday morning.
With a lack of wind, the boats tried to stem the tide at the Stone line, but most resorted to kedge at the start. Eventually the fickle winds helped the fleet around the course which used all the inshore marks on the card, out and back, without going further than the turning mark at Bench Head.
The Marconi boats returned after 5 hours of racing and Monkey Business and Blue Moon who were in close company around the course came out as best Marconi boats on corrected time. In the IRC rating class, Blue Moon finished 2nd to Absolution from Maylandsea Bay SC with Monkey Business in 4th place.
In the BJRC local handicap result, Monkey Business turned the table, finishing 4th overall with Blue Moon in 5th. Crazy Suzy on her shakedown race, finished 10th with club boat Ned Kelly sailed by our new members successfully completing their first race in 16th position.
The full race report and results can be found here.
Next weekend sees the start of the Marconi Cruisers Spring Regatta with 6 boats racing across to Brightlingsea to do battle with the Colne YC fleet. There are still crew spaces available on Woozle Hunter and Crazy Suzy, so if you’d like to participate contact Peter Ward or the skippers direct.
