Firstly a huge Thank You! To Jenny Ball for organising the last two weekends Sprint 15 activities. Great Job Jenny!! 21 competitors took part in the first 2016 Sprint 15 Summer TT at Marconi SC on 23rd and 24th April.  We were particularly pleased to welcome a number of new faces – who had participated in the Association Training Day run by Howard Hawkes the previous weekend. A decent northerly breeze and cold temperatures meant it did not feel very summery but did provide great racing conditions across both days.  Race 1 was a round the cans and the breeze fell…

Six local sailors and eight visiting sailors arrived at Marconi SC on a decidedly chilly Saturday morning for a Sprint 15 Training day at Marconi Sailing Club led by Howard Hawkes. A pre-session briefing took place over coffee and bacon rolls which is, as we all know, a mandatory part of any proper training.  Participants had been asked to pre-register to give an idea of the range of experience and what people wanted to gain from the day.  It was quite a diverse spectrum from learning how to tack/gybe effectively, some racing practice, how to return to shore in an…

The MSC Rowing Gig Elettra Has Another Successful Outing A fresh and clear morning greeted the rowing crews up river on the River Blackwater. The itinerary from the Maldon Gig Rowing Club asked for us to get down bright and early to launch the gigs at 8.30, the only problem was, that they hadn’t informed the tide to be there as well! Sadly we didn’t have a Ladies team to cheer on so instead we got our highly tuned race bodies prepared with the only known food proven to improve performance by at least 10%, suspiciously similar in amount to…

An eventful winters day at Marconi Sailing Club on Sunday 10th January. Gig rowing, Winter Dinghy Racing, spectators and cruiser activities made sure the staff of Mamgu Bar were kept busy all day. Gig Rowing Subscribe to Rowing emails from Marconi Sailing Club. Excellent conditions, for mid January, greeted 5 keen Gig rowers on Sunday. A medium strength South Westerly breeze made for some sheltered rowing in the lee of the sea wall, as long as you didn’t stray too far towards the choppy narrows. We got out and into the rhythm of rowing with the mixed crew of Lee…

The 18ft skiff class is, as far as I know, the only class that gets to sail off the beach at Sandbanks in Poole and you have to keep pinching yourself to remember you are in the UK. The event is hosted by the water sports academy and run by Parkstone Yacht Club, which makes such a location possible so let’s start with the praise for them. Day 1 With a solid turnout and a couple of boats out of hibernation the scene was set for a great event. You do not need many boats in the 18ft skiff class…

Once again this Marconi  Sailing Club is teaming up with at least 5 other clubs on the River Blackwater to participate in Barts Bash. The more observant among you will have noticed many clubs around the world did this last weekend. However due our tides being rather uncooperative last weekend ours will be held this Sunday 27th September. It would be great to see as many of you as possible out on the water.

We look forward to seeing as many of you on the start line as possible. Notice Of Race Topper 2015 Registration and briefing…

28 “students” took to the water in perfect summer weather for a Cat Training Day on Saturday 18th July.  The day was arranged in response to a request from Beth Spencer, Cadet Fleet Captain – but it was decided to open it up to all members. The day started with an onshore briefing to give a dry-capsize demonstration and general safety considerations when sailing a cat.  With the cautionary tales over – everyone went off to get rigged and onto the water. Participants covered a full spectrum of age and cat sailing experience – from those who had never sailed…
