MSC was host yesterday to a dozen youngsters living in the area devastated by the 1986 nuclear catastrophe at Chernobyl. As well as direct medical effects, the explosion left a legacy of ongoing environmental problems and deprivation. The Billericay branch of the Chernobyl Children Life Line charity provides recuperative holidays for affected kids, and we were delighted to be asked to give them a day on the water. They sailed large dinghies ‘offshore’, paddled Picos and canoes and raced terrifyingly bitey crabs. Much water was thrown and much fun had.
Thanks to everyone who provided equipment, time, effort and smiles to make it all possible!
