On a weekend that saw Americas Cup racing abandoned on the South Coast, Marconi Cruisers battled against the elements in races across the East Coast.
Blue Moon recovered from a navigational error in the Blackwater and came out the winner of the IRC class in the Maldon Yacht Club’s Cruiser Salver race.
The same BJRC race saw McGregor IV retire, sailing with too few crew and failing to put 2 reefs in the main at the start, with further reefing difficult as winds increased to high F6.
All around boats broached, hit marks, or missed them completely. Not surprising then that there were few other boats in the river today.
Further offshore Woozle Hunter was racing from Harwich to Ramsgate in the EAORA event, broaching at the first mark downwind in well over 30 knots causing damage to their traveller.
The first boat home a 32 footer (Amazon), completed the pasage in just 5hrs and 12 mins. Wow!
Woozle Hunter Finished 2nd in class and is now in 4th overall in the EAORA series as it approaches its climax.
Also heading to Ramsgate to fly the Marconi colours in Ramsgate week was Caroline. As we go to press, Andy Ellis and his crew have scored a 4 and a 5 to be 4th in a class of 14 boats.
Go Caroline!
