Saturday 27th May 2017.
No doubt you have heard of the forthcoming challenge to walk from Maldon to the sailing club along the sea wall – a distance of approximately 15 miles. Some of us have been “training” and doing winter walks once a month mostly along stretches of the Blackwater. We have been very lucky with the weather and the good company and have had some beautiful days of walking an average of 7 miles at a time. The organising is underway for the main event and it now time to step up to the mark and put your name down for it! The walk is in aid of Breast Cancer Care, a charity which provides valuable support and information to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer and ongoing support throughout treatment. More details of the charity can be found at www.breastcancercare.org.uk. We have registered the event under Pink Ribbon walks – “walk-your-way”
A just giving page has been set up so even if you are not able to walk please support us and this excellent cause, we’ve almost hit our target to raise £2,500 which is fantastic but JUST GIVE A LITTLE MORE… PLEASE!

Taking Part In The Walk
The walk will start promptly at 8.30 am from Promenade Park, Maldon and will follow the sea wall to Stansgate. We have arranged with Maylandsea Bay Sailing club to provide us toilet facilities and refreshments. This is roughly half way!
You will need to complete an entry form no less than a week before the event. To be sent to me by post or Email. The deadline will be Sunday 21st May. I will not be able to accept entries after that Date. The cost will be £20 per person which includes a t-shirt, donation to the charity and a contribution to the liability insurance, and only people over the age of 14 may enter.
Please make sure you put down emergency contact numbers which are available on the day and please don’t forget your t-shirt size. We plan for these to be worn on the day for easy identification.
Unfortunately dogs cannot accompany you on this walk as we will be walking though areas with a variety of livestock.
There will be one briefing for the walk at 7pm on Friday 26th May in the clubhouse saloon. Hopefully most people will be about as it is a Bank Holiday camping weekend.
The entry form and sponsor forms can be accessed via the following links:

There will be a sign on/sign off procedure on the day (a bit like our racing sign on/off systems) and there will be a marshal at MBSC checking us though.
There will be plenty of first aiders on the walk and a standard first aid kit will be carried, but if anyone finds the distance too far or becomes injured then there will be a number of pick up points along the way for vehicular access. We do need some volunteers with cars who can be on stand-by to come and get the “weary or wounded” (hopeful we won’t have either). It would be helpful if the driver knows the area between Maldon and Stansgate well! If you feel you would like to help please contact Fenella directly (fenellamiller@aol.com)
Thank you for your support and I look forward to walking with you on the day!!
