Marconi Sailing Clubs brand new rowing gig Elettra has arrived!
Named after Princess Maria Elettra, daughter of Guglielmo Marconi, the new rowing gig has been purchased by the sailing club to offer a new type of on the water activity for our members.
In the past Marconi Sailing Club have had the use of a rowing gig for many major events including open days and Cadet Week. With this going down so well and with a view of increasing on the water participation, Marconi were successful in getting Sport England grant funding to purchase the new rowing gig.
Based on a traditional 19th Century design The East Coast rowing gig provides people of all ages and abilities with an opportunity to get on the water. It has been built by the Pioneer Sailing Trust in Brightlingsea and is now ready to go for 2016.
We are currently working out how best to introduce rowing activities to the sailing programme but with plenty of other sailing clubs now having rowing gigs expect to see us on the move and competing around Essex soon.
