Good News ! Marconi SC have been successful in gaining a ÂŁ10000 grant from Sport England towards our SB20 Keelboat Project. The project aims to secure the long term future of this type of sailing at the club by developing a fleet of boats. This follows the clubs commitment to this last season when an SB20 was purchased on a trial basis to gauge response. The response was overwhelmingly positive from all who managed to get out and sail the SB20. The grant enables the purchase of three more SB20s and the club will now be in a position to offer regular small…

This Sunday sees the start of the 2019 seasons Dinghy Racing at Marconi Sailing Club. Unlike last season where we simply had a few minor changes to proceedings this season we have a lot of changes to advise you about. The first thing to advise is that we will be starting our club racing from the new Bridge Deck using the new starting systems. It might all seem a bit different but actually when the horn sounds and all the flags go down you start – that’s pretty normal. One thing to note is the extension to the time between…

So after almost a year of talking about it, the sailing sub have decided upon the locations of the marks for this season. They have also concluded that changing the lettering on the current race marks would be a lot of work and as we are adding a handful of new ones we probably have enough to do. Perhaps this could be something that we discuss this season, with a view to doing something different next season. Mark names perhaps………discuss this among yourselves and please let us know what you think, your fleet captains are dying to talk to you…

The fabulous February weather recently has prompted some sailing and other activities such as Stand-up Paddle Boarding from the club in recent weeks. Many keep their sailing and other water based activities going though the winter selecting the good days and making the most of things – this was certainly the case last Saturday at Marconi SC. In the picture below you can see the club SB20 in the distance a brave SUP-er, and two matching and very well loved Toppers – what you cant see is the SUp-ers that paddled round Osea Island (good effort chaps). Saturday saw the…

We are in the middle of the changes for this year – along the lines outlined at the cruiser AGM whereby we are trying to get the bigger boats into A row and group where possible into like displacement types. This is not completely possible but this is our best shot. Normally we would notify you all individually of changes to your positions but because of the volume of changes this would be a lot of phone calls. You will still receive the final version as part of your membership pack. Please take the time to read carefully the information sheet…

Marconi Sailing Club is now a RYA British Youth Sailing Recognised Club. As well as a nice new flag to go up the club mast and a very posh looking plaque for the clubhouse, this recognises the great work being done at Marconi SC to enable and promote youth sailing and racing. We are very proud to gain this recognition and it is only possible as a result of lots of dedicated people working away over a protracted period to give the young people at MSC every opportunity to flourish. We look forward to developing this aspect of MSC even…
