Congratulations to Chris Kirby who took September’s winning image with this serene image of the start of the BJRC Krohn Cup off Osea Island. Don’t forget there is still plenty to photograph throughout the winter months to illustrate a “day in the life of Marconi Sailing Club” both on and off the water, so keep those images coming into the photo competion.

As in the previous two years, MSC once again played host on Tuesday 5th July to twelve special youngsters from Ukraine, giving them an unforgettable lifetime experience, which for most of them was their first time on the sea. The children: six boys and six girls aged between 8 and 13, are on a one-month recuperative holiday organised by the South Essex branch of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline charity.  They have all grown up near the ill-fated Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where local communities continue to be affected by health problems thirty years after the nuclear disaster. The judges were inundated with entries in May but after much deliberation the results are out! The winner of the Serious Sailing category is Dave Russell with his perfectly composed shot of Sprint 15’s on the start line entitled “And they’re off!” In our Candid Camera category who could ignore this not-so-old-sea-dog shot from Caroline Nickalls entitled “Start them Young!”? It was a perfect day to celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday. Thanks to all involved. Julie Ferneyhough, Sara Townsend & Claire Jakes aka the “MSC Social Divas”

It was all hands on deck as guests received a warm welcome from club members who gave tours of the club’s facilities and arranged joyrides on the beautiful River Blackwater.
