Report by Dennis Dear The Marconi Sailing Club Solo Open Meeting on the River Blackwater, Steeple, Essex was held on Sunday 7th September when twenty Solo helms signed on. These included five from the host club and four from Fishers Green SC. Burnham SC, Royal Harwich SC and seven other clubs were also represented and warmly welcomed to the event. Marconi Sailing Clubs cadets arrived in Deal (Kent) today for the annual NSSA Championships. There are 11 cadets sailing Toppers, Lasers, 420 and a Comet Duo in the racing this week. The action starts tomorrow and lasts all week with the last races on Friday. Today was a day of travelling, rigging boats and then setting up tents before some relaxation ahead of racing tomorrow. This is the second year the Marconi Cadets have attended the NSSA championships. East Coast Piers Race sponsored by Zhik On the weekend of the 5th and 6th July 55 competitors took to the water at Marconi Sailing Club for the annual East Coast Piers Race in aid of The Cirdan Trust and Essex Air Ambulance. The event sponsored by sailing clothing company Zhik, sees sailors from across the country take part in a long distance race from the club, out of the Blackwater Estuary and along the Essex coastline. Marconi sailing Club was represented by three Sprint 15’s at EUROCAT, Carnac, France from 1st to 4th May, a long standing dream of Nick Dewhirst who sadly passed away last year but would have been proud to see 19 Sprint 15’s lined up on the beach. Peter Richardson and Kevin Kirby took the overnight boat from Portsmouth to Caen leaving a 3 ¾ hour effortless drive to Carnac on the superb French roads, Jon Pearse took the more ambitious route via Dover/Calais leaving an 8 hour drive although he was still there for registration Wednesday evening! It is with great sadness that Margaret Harrison and family announce the loss of Chris Harrison. Chris fought a brave battle against cancer but sadly passed away on  25th May. Chris was an active member at Marconi SC for the best part of 40 years before retiring to Cornwall 4 years ago. His Funeral will take place at 11am on 16th June at Treswithian Downs Crematorium in Camborne, Cornwall. A wake will follow at The Watermill Inn, Hayle, Cornwall. It is planned that his ashes will be laid to rest in Chelmsford later in the year
