Cadets make good use of two recently acquired club dinghies
Recently Marconi Sailing Club has been very fortunate in being able to increase the number of club owned sailing dinghies it is able to offer to its members for use.
The purchase of a very good condition used Laser with a 4.7 rig has been possible due to a very generous donation by a club member, this boat was given its maiden outing on Sunday by cadet fleet captain Beth Spencer.
Obviously the capsize we witnessed was a “deliberate” act of christening for the boat, it also gave the opportunity to see just how blemish free the underside of the boat is currently. (we have pictures)
A good condition used Topper was also purchased, this was made possible by funds raised as a result of cadet week. This boat is also in very decent condition and was given its maiden outing by cadet Alice Mckay, who despite having never sailed a Topper before seemed to be very at home in the boat.
Some of the other cadets are very much looking forward to sailing these boats in the near future.
Marconi Sailing Club has seen a marked increase in the use of the club owned dinghies this season. Some of you may not be aware that the club owns the following sailing dinghies:
- 2 Optimists
- 2 Toppers
- 2 Picos
- 2 Lasers
- 1 Comet Duo
- 1 GP14
- 1 Dart 15
- 1 Lark (very tatty and not in use but would be a good boat given some attention)
These boats are available to be used by club members whenever there is safety boat cover available. Currently they are available on a first come first served basis. Obviously these boats require maintenance from time to time, if this is something you might like to help with, please contact the club Dinghy Bosun.
