The Marconi Challenge Cup event usually consists of two pursuit races, a full 2 hour 20 minutes race in the morning followed by a half pursuit of 1 hour 10 minutes in the afternoon.
This year the Challenge Cup races were to be held on May Bank Holiday Monday but the whole holiday weekend was beset by high winds and, for safety reasons, it was decided to run a single half pursuit race in the morning to see how the competitors managed.
This was a good choice as a fast and exciting race was completed in increasing winds but whilst the wind and tide were running togther keeping the water surface reasonably flat.
After a rather alarmingly (!) fast start from the hard, Nick Miller held on to win the race with Steve Glynn and Tom Duckmanton closing fast in the last few minutes. Congratulations to Nick.
No further racing took place (and the water looked very rough after the tide turned!).
