A number of boats on the list to join this trip were unable to do so due to delay caused by weather during fitting out, launching delays due to weather and tractor problems; among others, George and Angie Male on Evenstar who organised the trip.
Saturday dawned sunny and calm. George was seen to wave us off as he waited to have his hull blasted. It was destined to remain calm all day so most of the fleet used the time to charge the batteries as they headed to Brightlingsea. One or two boats who decided to delay their departure until the afternoon did manage to sail some of the way.
In the evening Winkies, one of our regular eating haunts, was visited and their excellent fish and chips were consumed. This was followed by a visit to the Colne Yacht Club where, by coincidence, we were entertained by two gentlemen on guitars and the friends celebrating some event, details are unknown.
Once again Sunday dawned sunny with a pleasant sailing breeze on the pontoons. Most departed around midday to return to the Club. On crossing the bar and entering the Colne there was a pleasant sailing breeze heading down towards No 8 and Colne Point buoys. However on turning at No 8 towards the Molyett beacon and the power station this died and little progress was made so the iron topsails were in evidence again. However a number did manage to sail back to the Club.
Overall a good weekend for our first visit to our second home of Brightlingsea.
Those boats attending included, Rubicon, Southern Hey, Dreamer, C’est Moi, Ariadne, Ranzo, Trumpeter, Charlotte.
