Cadet Week 2008
Cadet Week
This years Cadet Week was yet another success with over 80 cadets taking part. Ths sun did not shine much during the week but we had perfect wind for beginners.
Monday was as per usual capsize drill, most of the drills were done from the pontoon with the Intermediates being ferried out into the middle of the river by their tutors. Tuesday was a normal days sailing with the various groups doing different things. Wednesday was the picnic day with a long distance race to Osea Island, lunch and games on the beach and then another long distance race back. Thursday morning was the theory test for all groups followed by sailing in the afternoon. Richard Dixon very kindly organised the bottle boat race on Thursday evening with cadets having to make boats using four bottles and whatever else they could find. Friday morning was a little breezy when the campsite woke up but still most of the groups went sailing. The pirate theme day was a great success with fancy dress and games including walking the plank in the afternoon.
Saturday was the cadet regatta with most of the cadets showing off the skills they had learnt through the week. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
After the Cadet Week 2008 prize giving Saturday evening everyone partied in the disco and enjoyed the free BBQ.
The last thing to say is a massive thank you to Bryan and his team on the cadet committee. Without their hard work throughout the year the week would not happen. Also a thank you to everyone who helped out during the week, especially those who pulled together to provide a great amount of resuce cover in our crisis.
