The turnout for this event was surprisingly good considering the predicted weekend weather forecast. Eight boats slipped their moorings around 0930 on Saturday 6th June. The passage was a bit bumpy to start with as we had to motor against a strong easterly and a fast flowing flood tide. Things became more comfortable as the boats turned northerly cutting across into Tollesbury Fleet then westerly, and north westerly for the last bit of the passage to the marina entrance. Suruca took the scenic route by crossing into the buoyed channel at red can number 3 following up the rear of the others. With the boats sorted out in their respective berths people then started gathering on various boats for a chat. Some people mainly ladies took a walk to the village and then back across the fields. Some of the men exhausted from the passage chose to rest a while with a glass or two of refreshment, but a couple of chaps did brave the swimming pool. The evening brought us all together in the Tollesbury Cruising Club where twenty-four of us gathered for a sociable evening. Everyone was giving good comments about the meal, the service and the facility, which is a relief when organising an event that includes food. Due to the weekends strong wind forecast and the fact they were both going to be single handed, Trumpeter and Charlotte made the wise decision to go round by car to join us all for the evening meal. Sadly Twiga had to cancel due to a sudden family bereavement.
