We pride ourselves on our friendliness and hospitality as well as on more than 50 years of sailing on the superb River Blackwater. If there's anything more you need to know please contact us on any of the email addresses here on the website - or come down to Stansgate and say hello. You'll be more than welcome.
Simon Elwell - Club Commodore
The Club is open to anyone to join, subject to the normal formalities.
The Club site is a green field of some 5 acres, with ample boat storage space, parking and a wide launching ramp. The Club house is two storey and boasts hot showers, two bars, professionally catered galley, as well as all the usual amenities. The Club enjoys on site camping for 28 days a year, two weeks of which are taken in early August when we also run our famous cadet week.
The Club sails in the wide tidal estuary of the River Blackwater, with launching and sailing possible at any state of the tide. The estuary is ideal for exploring the islands of Osea and Northey and trips can be made to Bradwell and Maldon. Beyond Bradwell the North Sea beckons our more intrepid sailors.
The Club organises two races on a Sunday from mid March to mid November. Separate starts are made for two catamaran classes, and three dinghy classes. Our two support boats are crewed by trained volunteer club members. There is no pressure to enter a race, if you just wish to mess around in boats that's fine.
Classes SailedWe sail Tornado, Hurricane, Prindle, Inter, Nacra, Dart and Hobie catamarans, about 80 in total. We also sail Solo dinghies, Toppers, Picos and a handicap fleet consisting of Lasers, GP14s, Wanderers and Mirrors. We also have a thriving Sailboard section.
Our cruiser section is almost full, due to the excellent mooring and storage facilities available at reasonable rates, but the Club can only achieve this by the "Self Help" philosophy that we engender.
Every year, in June or July, the Club organises the ECPR which is a long distance race for catamarans that starts off Osea Pier and goes to Walton Pier and back. The Race attracts a large entry from both the UK and Europe. All proceeds go to charity - most recently we have been supporting the Cirdan Trust and the Essex Air Ambulance. Please see the ECPR pages on this site for full details.
